INDIANA RECYCLING COALITION RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD/ EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ELECTED TO NATIONAL BOARD
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – On August 31, for the second time in three years, the National Recycling Coalition (NRC) awarded the Indiana Recycling Coalition (IRC) its esteemed Outstanding Recycling Organization annual award at the Resource Recycling Conference in New Orleans.
“The Indiana Recycling Coalition is honored to once again receive this prestigious award from the National Recycling Coalition. Working together, our top notch staff and board as well as our highly engaged community partners helped us advance our mission in significant ways this past year,” said Cassie Stockamp, Board President, Indiana Recycling Coalition.
The IRC was recognized for its work in three key areas – food waste reduction, K-12 engagement and the successful campaign to stop an ill-conceived dirty recycling plan for Indianapolis.
In addition, the IRC’s Executive Director, Carey Hamilton, was elected to serve a three year term on the National Recycling Coalition Board of Directors.
“I am so glad to have the opportunity to serve on the National Recycling Coalition’s Board of Directors and I look forward to helping advance the mission of the NRC through this commitment,” said Carey Hamilton. “This work will also benefit the Indiana Recycling Coalition as we work to grow our partnerships with policy and industry stakeholders across the U.S.,” continued Hamilton.
In 2013, the IRC commissioned a landmark recycling jobs study which documented both the strong in-state demand for recyclable commodities from Indiana manufacturers and the opportunity to create 10,000 new jobs by increasing recycling 25% state-wide. This economic research bolstered the IRC’s case to grow recycling, adding to the strong evidence of resource and energy conservation that results from effective recycling programs. This new economic data has served as the underpinning of our work since its publication and has helped the IRC advance its mission substantively.
The IRC will host its annual gala, REVENT, on November 12 at the Metropolitan High School just west of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis. Details about that event can be found here.
